One in every 125 babies in the UK has a congenital heart defect (CHD). But over 1,000 newborns leave hospitals in the UK every year with no one realising they have a life-threatening heart condition. Tiny Tickers is a small UK charity that aims to improve the detection, care and treatment of serious heart conditions in babies. When these conditions are detected during pregnancy, babies get treatment from the first possible moment – and early detection is shown to improve their chance of survival and long-term quality of life, reducing the side effects of heart failure including brain damage. Tiny Tickers have now funded 127 of these machines across the UK, and our donation helps Tiny Tickers give more newborns the test that could save their life.

We were very lucky that a sonographer picked up my granddaughter Alice’s heart condition before she was born, so that she could have her first operation at only 3 days old. Alice also underwent two further major heart operations during her first few months. Thankfully Alice is now 3 years old, happy, helathy and living a normal life.
